Marriage Prayer Alert

DOMA - DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE AMENDMENT UPHELD

Dear Praying and Worshipping Warriors,

We are thankful for your prayers! In November of 2006 we received a phone call from the Attorney General's office informing us that the Nebraska Defense of Marriage Amendment has been upheld. ACLU has decided to not appeal the case and dropped it's challenge to the marriage definition in Nebraska. This is an answer to prayer. Following is a short history of the attempt to redefine marriage.

On June 24, 2003 the U.S. Supreme Justices struck down a Texas law banning sodomy in a 6 to 3 opinion. Seventeen years prior to this ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states had a right to enforce sodomy laws.

Harry Valentine states, "owing to six members of the U.S. Supreme Court sodomy is now legal in all 50 states (Lawrence v. Texas). The Justices set themselves above history, the Founders, the U.S. Constitution, Biblical Law, even God almighty. The prophet Isaiah warned, Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil - Isaiah 5:20.

17th Century Puritan Scholar, Matthew Henry, wrote of Isaiah's prophecy:
"Woe will come upon those who set the justice of God at defiance...who overthrow the distinctions between moral good and evil...who doing evil, justify it, applaud it, and recommend it to others...As judges, they pervert justice...They think they can outwit Infinite Wisdom and countermine Providence itself. The enemy shall come in like a flood, and there shall be none to lift up a standard against him. God's fire will burn as long as there is stubble and chaff to fuel it. His hand will remain stretched forth to smite, until, by prayer, they take hold of it and by reformation, submit themselves to it!"

My expression to you is not to be "doom and gloom" but I would not be honest to what I sense the Lord impressing on my heart if I failed to communicate clearly THE TIME IS NOW TO STAND IN THE GAP AND BEGIN WARRING AGAINST OUR APATHY TOWARD GOD'S RIGHTEOUS STANDARDS. LORD REMOVE THE BLINDERS FROM OUR EYES. As Christians in America we enjoy lifestyles of luxury compared to many believers in the third world. Our lives often evolve around the comfort of our Christian friends and our sphere of influence does not expand beyond the church we attend.

What does this mean to Nebraska?
On April 30, 2003 ACLU and three other organizations filed a lawsuit in court to challenge Nebraska's Defense of Marriage Amendment. The ban, which was passed by Nebraska voters in 2000 by over 70%, is one of a kind in America because it denies same-sex unions and domestic partnerships.

There is an aggressive campaign underway nationwide to see states adopt legislation that legalizes homosexual marriage. Once one state makes the move, homosexual rights groups say they will then challenge the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act, claiming that states which fail to recognize homosexual unions are in violation of the "full faith and credit" clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

In May of 2005, Federal Judge Joseph Bataillon of Omaha ruled that DOMA was unconstitutional. Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning filed an appeal to the 8th Circuit Court in St. Louis. On February 13, 2006 Nebraska's DOMA was heard before the 8th Circuit. In July 2006 the 8th Circuit overturned the lower court's decision and ruled DOMA constitution. There is a strong consensus that Nebraska's DOMA will have national impact because of the strong language that defines marriage between one man and one woman. We give God praise for answering our prayers.

Our nation is in a cultural war regarding moral valeus. We have an opportunity to continue to UNITE IN STRATEGIC PRAYER and cry out for God's mercy to protect the Godly institution of marriage in our nation.

If you have taken the time to read all the above information.... God bless you. I know that I have given you much to absorb but my desire is to awaken our hearts to intercession to defend God's definition of marriage and family. I truly believe that the Body of Christ must begin to engage this war through prayer. This is not a " picnic prayer". This will require tenacity and perseverance.

Let's go to battle and agree in prayer for:

  • States to adopt legislation defining marriage as between one man and one woman.
  • For a national Defense of Marriage Amendment to be adopted into law.

    Please join in repentant prayer:

Lord, please have MERCY upon your church in Nebraska and America. You gave us the mandate and power to pray, repent, obey and turn the tide of evil. We number ourselves among the transgressors as Daniel did in Daniel 9 and repent that we have not stood watch and allowed sin to be deemed "tolerance". (Duet. 8:10; Psalms 11:3; 123, 124, Isaiah 26:13; 59:10-14).

Revive us, O Lord! Challenge us to obedience and faith to rise up in intercession. Lord, we pray for God-fearing, anointed leaders who can effectively lead us. Grant us Judges who will render Righteous Judgment. ( Exodus 18:-21-23; Judges 2:16; 2 Chronicles 19:6-7; Ps alms 67:4, 96:10; Isaiah 41:2; Hebrews 11:32-38)

In the most powerful name in the universe, JESUS. Amen.

Continue to go before the Lord. Let the Lord break our hearts with what breaks His heart. If God is prompting you with specific prayer strategy, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Standing in the gap with you,
    Karen Bowling

(Please forward to others who will join this strategic time in history to pray)
